Welcome to Avatok
A founder note on why we built Avatok, who it’s for, and the bet that creators get paid better when the platform stops getting in the way.
If you make things online and you'd like to be paid for it, Avatok is for you. That sentence is the entire reason this company exists, and it's the only sentence on this page that you have to remember.
The longer version: somewhere between the early days of YouTube and now, the creator economy got really good at making creators famous and really bad at making creators paid. Ad rates drift downward year after year. Algorithms reward whatever the platform wants to push that week. Tip jars hide behind sign-up walls. Most of the money flows through layers of opacity — agencies, networks, platform fees on platform fees — and the person whose face is on the camera ends up with a number that bears no relationship to the value they created.
We thought you could do this better, and we've spent the last year building what we hope is the proof.
What Avatok actually is
Avatok is a creator platform with three honest, monetizable surfaces and nothing else:
- Live streaming. Run a paid live event with tickets, tipping, and live commerce built in. The audience pays for the seat, you get the money.
- 1:1 paid video sessions. Set a per-minute, per-hour, or fixed price. Viewers book your time. The wallet holds the funds in escrow until the call ends and reconciles automatically.
- The marketplace. A clean discovery surface where viewers find creators by what they do, not by what the algorithm decided to test on them today.
That's it. Three surfaces, one wallet, daily Stripe payouts, no minimum balance, no follower count to clear. The full thing is built so a creator with two hundred fans and a clear offer can earn more than a creator with two hundred thousand followers on a platform that pays $0.003 per view.
The thing we are not
Avatok is not an ad-supported feed, not a discovery game, not a tool that gates monetization behind watch-hour requirements, and not a place that sells your attention to brands. We don't run display ads. We don't inject sponsorships into your videos. There is no scenario where a creator on Avatok earns less because the algorithm decided to deprioritize them this week.
We have a single revenue model: a transparent platform fee, capped at 10% for most creators, and it's up to you whether you absorb that fee or pass it to the viewer at checkout. The full math is on the payouts page and we kept the worked examples deliberately boring so nobody has to do mental arithmetic to figure out what they'll actually take home.
Who we built this for
The first creators we built Avatok for were the ones who were technically successful but financially stuck: coaches with engaged audiences but no good way to monetize 1:1 time, livestreamers with a few thousand loyal viewers and no way to charge them, course teachers who didn't want to run a Discord and a Stripe checkout and a Calendly and a Zoom and a CRM all by hand. Avatok glues those tools together — booking, payment, meeting, payout — into a single product, and the only thing you have to focus on is the thing you're actually good at.
The second audience is anyone who's about to start. The friction to get up and running is sixty seconds for the account, five minutes for KYC, and then you're live. There is no waiting list, no algorithm to appease before you can earn, no eligibility hoop.
What this blog is
This is where we explain how we think. New product launches will show up here, but so will the design decisions behind them, the things we got wrong, and the things we're learning as creators actually use the platform. We'll publish on a roughly weekly cadence. If we don't have anything worth saying that week, we won't pad.
Everything we publish is held to the same bar: useful to a creator who is trying to make a living, honest about what we don't yet do well, and written in something that resembles a human voice rather than a press release.
If you have a topic you want us to cover — a pricing question, a booking flow you wish worked differently, a policy you want to challenge — write to us at support@avatok.ai. We read every message. Welcome to Avatok.
